Science of the Secondary #12 BIN / Atelier HOKO
$20.00
“To remove their rubbish, human beings have long since relied on the bin: they fill it up with all sorts of garbage and when it is more or less full and the stench becomes unbearable, one unfortunate individual will have the dreaded task of emptying it. It is curious, however, that in parts of the world untouched by man, bins are neither seen nor heard of and before our minds start conjuring scenes of animals burning their own garbage every night, a better explanation would be that the concept of rubbish simply does not exist in nature and therefore…no bin!”
‘Science of the Secondary: Bin’ is the twelveth edition in the series of ongoing research conceived and developed by Atelier HOKO.

Artist Info
Atelier HOKO (2009) is an independent research lab focusing on investigations towards material and immaterial conditions that make up our experience of the everyday. The programme is developed in response to questions on how the role and practice of design today can move beyond its perceived perimeters. The atelier hopes to cultivate an open-ness and ability to un-know, bringing about a heightened curiosity towards all phenomena which can lead to potential applications within the creative field. Part of design studio, HOKO founded in 2002 by Alvin Ho and Clara Koh.
